Bricklayer Training at SLBC Ltd
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently reported that since 2016/17, fatal injuries within the construction industry have risen 8.3%, with 50% of those fatalities due to falling from heights (Hertstools, 2022). Subsequently, health and safety processes, procedures and training are absolutely paramount to the everyday running of our business, and the construction industry as whole; we must protect our trades people at every opportunity.
Why We Provide Bricklayer Training
All of our employees and subcontractors are provided with relevant and appropriate health and safety and construction training to ensure they are all able to spot potential safety risks on site, and work in a way that keeps risks to a minimum. By failing to address health and safety issues through the implementation of adequate and relevant training and ensuring that our workforce is knowledgeable of what constitutes appropriate health and safety procedures on site, a number of issues arise. Poor or inadequate bricklayer training can result in decreased productivity, profitability, and credibility. Not to mention the legal implications that arise should accidents or illness occur as a result of inadequate training.
How We Provide Bricklayer Training
SLBC Ltd ensure that our bricklayer training stays relevant and trade-appropriate through the use of our Cloud-based health and safety and human resource management platform, Atlas Citation. Once a subcontractor or employee starts with us here at SLBC Ltd, we distribute our ‘Bricklayers Induction’ Course which include six modules dedicated to general health and safety within the construction industry, but also with more trade-specific modules directly related to bricklaying:
- Construction Safety Awareness – Certified
- Health and Safety Awareness – Certified
- Abrasive Wheels Awareness – Certified
- Manual Handling – Certified
- Slips, Trips & Falls in Construction Level 2 (VTQ)
- Working at Heights – Certified
Each subcontractor and employee must complete these courses within a month of joining the company, upon completion they receive a certification for each module which can be shared with our principal contractors. This is in addition to real-time, onsite training such as Toolbox Talks or site-specific inductions. Atlas has become an integral part of our health and safety processes and procedures, streamlining our ability to provide adequate, relevant, and valuable bricklayer training at the click of a button.
Bricklayer training is a continuous priority for SLBC Ltd. Continuous professional training is integral to the prioritisation and implementation of health and safety measures across all sites that bricklayers work on, and across the construction industry.
