This year, SLBC has chosen to fundraise on behalf of the Beatson Glasgow Cancer Charity. Choosing a cause to fundraise for can be difficult as there are so many important issues in our society which require financial backing and support. But for us, the Beatson Cancer Charity became a cause closer to SLBC Ltd’s heart than ever before. At the end of last year, our contracts manager Sam Hamilton was diagnosed with Cancer and has since been receiving life-saving treatment and support from The Beatson Glasgow.
And so, we felt it was time to do what we could to support the place and people (The Beatson) that supported our people in their time of need. The Beatson Glasgow offers their services to 60% of the Scottish population, seeing around 8,000 new patients each year so if there’s something we know, it’s that the services and support offered by the Beatson have been pivotal to not only this situation but many of our own individual experiences too. We all know someone who has been to The Beatson Glasgow for treatment or support, so for all these reasons we felt that The Beatson Glasgow was the perfect charity to direct our fundraising efforts towards.
Our First Event for The Beatson Glasgow
Our first event to raise money on behalf of the Beatson Glasgow was our SLBC Golf Day at Ballochmyle Golf Club in Mauchline. The event entailed 18 holes of Golf, a Raffle and Auction, of which 100% of the proceeds went directly to The Beatson. It was a fantastic day for all involved, despite a very wet start, our golfers persevered and for that we were truly grateful. The generosity and support shown by all of our Event Sponsors and Donors was spectacular.
So spectacular, that we raised an astounding £2396.00! All of these funds go directly back to helping those receiving or recovering from Cancer treatment and towards state of the art equipment, life-changing research and support. And this will not be our only fundraising event, we plan to have a few more towards the end of the year. We cannot wait to continue our fundraising journey with the Beatson. For now, we continue to support our amazing Contracts Manager as he continues his journey towards beating cancer.
